Badder, budder, sugar, crumble: texture words.

Texture is a description, not a category

Here's the thing most menus don't spell out: badder, budder, batter, sugar, and crumble describe what a concentrate feels like — its consistency — not how it was made or how good it is. The same starting extract can be whipped into badder, left as batter, or crystallized into sugar. The texture is a finishing choice.

The five textures

Badder (pronounced like "batter" with a d) is whipped to a cake-batter consistency — soft, malleable, easy to handle. The whipping introduces air and breaks up larger structures.

Budder is the creamiest of the set: smooth, butter-like, uniform. Often the result of careful whipping at controlled temperatures.

Batter sits looser and saucier — less whipped than badder, with more liquid character. Think cake batter before it goes in the oven.

Sugar (sugar wax) is crystalline: small THCA crystals suspended in terpene-rich liquid, like wet sugar. It's the small-crystal cousin of diamonds — same crystallization principle, crystals never grown large.

Crumble is the driest of the set: a brittle, honeycomb-like texture that breaks apart under pressure. It typically comes from purging at higher temperatures or longer durations, which drives off more of the volatile compounds and leaves a drier structure behind.

Cold cure badder

Cold cure is a curing method worth knowing by name: instead of whipping the extract with heat, the maker lets it cure slowly at cool temperatures. The slow cure preserves volatile terpenes that heat would drive off, and the texture sets into a smooth badder naturally rather than being whipped into it. When a label says "cold cure badder," it's telling you about patience — time did the work that agitation usually does.

What texture doesn't tell you

Texture tells you nothing about potency, purity, or starting material. A sugar and a badder from the same batch are the same extract in different clothes. Judge the batch by its lab report, not its consistency.
